Cal's Classic American in South Lake Union

http://calsclassic.com/slu

Last Friday after work, my 2 gal pals, Kimberly and Patrice and I headed to Cal's Classic American for dinner.
Cal's is a  casual restaurant that has a fairly large bar area for sports fans to catch up on whatever sport they happen to fancy and then a restaurant serving Pot Pies, Burgers, sandwiches, fish & chips, and other classic American fare.
I ordered the burger with a fried egg on top.   For some reason I just love a  greasy fried egg plopped on top of a good burger.  All of those flavors combined equal deliciousness!

This burger was pretty good.  The meat was tasty and the egg was cooked perfectly.  My big complaint is that the bun did not hold up at all.  I know it's tough with all the egg but it fell apart immediately.  After 2 bites I had to use a fork and eat it because everything was in pieces.  It kind of ruins the taste because you just don't have the same experience with a fork.  But, it still wasn't half bad and the fries were the nice thick ones that I like.  Next time I would probably skip the egg due to the bun issue.  Also the company was great and when you are having fun with great people your food tends to taste better!

Zippy's Giant Burgers

Actually went to Zippy's a couple of months ago and am only now getting around to posting.  I kept hearing about this place in West Seattle and I finally went on a Saturday afternoon.  The Burger joint is in a non-description strip center.  From the outside I was not sure what to expect.  Didn't look great.
But inside it was super fun.  Lot's of cool burger stuff to look at.  I ordered the basic burger with cheese, fries and an orange soda.
The burger was delicious.  The meat was really tasty and well cooked.  The bun held together nicely and had a cornmeal topping.   All of the toppings were all fresh and yummy.  The fries were good but nothing special.  Overall a good choice and a burger place I would give thumbs up to.  Not sure I would drive back over the bridge every weekend since I have so many other choices in my own backyard but still a good choice if you are in West Seattle.
Before the first bite

Up for a challenge?  I think John could do it!

Love this burger!
